Just a quick post today to alert readers to a couple of great mental health resources. First, click here to read about Edna Foa being named one of Time's 100 most influential people. Dr.Foa is a leading expert in the understanding of anxiety and has done a tremendous amount to help us in the battle against PTSD. In November, I witnessed Dr.Foa receiving the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies' lifetime achievement award, so she appears to be having a well-deserved, remarkable year.
Also, this past week, my graduate school mentor, Thomas Joiner, appeared on NPR's "Talk of the Nation." In the interview, Dr.Joiner discussed harmful myths about suicide and how the research he and others have conducted has helped us to better understand and prevent suicidal behavior. Click here to listen to the interview and here to read our review of Dr.Joiner's new book, "Myths about Suicide."
The media does not always do the best job of identifying mental health resources based in empirical data and scientific-mindedness, so I'm thrilled that two such shining examples appeared in such a small amount of time.
